Kubashnee’s Climb
Inspired by her son, Kylen, PSDS member Kubashnee set herself a challenge to climb Snowdon – the highest peak in Wales at 1,085 metres – as a symbol of hope, determination and strength for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Not only did Kubashnee succeed in reaching the summit, she also reached her fundraising goal with donations totalling £1,000 shared between three causes close to her heart, including PSDS.
Speaking about the motivation for her trek Kubashnee said: “My son Kylen was born with Down Syndrome and congenital heart disease. He underwent open-heart surgery at just 4 months. Kylen is thriving. He is loving and caring and he charms everyone who is fortunate to meet him. He has fantastic dance moves and enjoys Just Dance, loves crisps and pizza and ‘gnocchi gnocchi pasta’ and is a huge fan of Michael Jackson. Kylen loves kicking a ball around and is like a fish in the sea or swimming pool. Kylen is like every other child, he just takes longer to learn things and works well with patience, gentle words, repetition and visual cues. The climb was a big challenge, but nothing compared to the daily challenges that individuals with Down syndrome and their families face with such grace and courage. It was an honour to take on Snowdon for Kylen and his friends.”
We are extremely grateful to Kubashnee and all who generously sponsored her climb, raising essential funds to help PSDS, Quest Primary ELP and Bromley DSSG continue providing education, support and advocacy for people with Down syndrome and their families.
Thank you Kubashnee and Kylen – your determination and courage is an inspiration to us all.
